Employment Blue Lake is now accepting applications for Counsellor and Cook Positions for Spring/Summer 2010 Benefits of working at camp: Being a camp staff is a wonderful experience; it is an opportunity to make new friends, live out of doors, and really be yourself, while gaining the great satisfaction of working with kids. Working at summer camp is an experience you’ll remember forever, and can have life long impacts. It is more than a summer job in many ways; it is an investment in your future. For example, you can learn and hone many skills that are needed in the job market after your camp career is over. Camp is a unique environment with many opportunities for personal growth. It encourages risk taking and being open to opportunities to try new things. Through the nature of the position, camp staff gain skills in problem solving, communication, organization, supervision and management, as well as flexibility, creativity, compassion, patience, a sense of humour, and work ethics. Some of the personal benefits staff can gain at camp include independence, self confidence, responsibility, decision making, compassion, commitment, respect and new interests. Many employers, and universities recognize the benefits and learning that staff gain while working at summer camp, and really recognize this experience as an asset; by hiring or accepting a past camp staff they are getting a dedicated, hard working individual. Working at camp is also a lot of fun! Camp Counsellor responsibilities: A Blue Lake camp counsellor is responsible for the well-being and security of their cabin group, the day to day routines of camp, learning their campers likes, dislikes, hopes, dreams and goals, and providing reliable, consistent support and consideration for their camper’s individual needs. Counsellors should be compassionate and caring, creative and fun, and have a desire to bring out the best in campers, and make a difference in their lives.
